It’s been a long time since I’ve done a painting in oil. I’m not used to the drying time between layers and smudged things up a bit…..patience, patience.

SFG: Shy

This week the prompt over at Sugar Frosted Goodness is shy. When it comes to photos, I am a regular shrinking violet (look closely at my shirt and you will see that I filled it with a scan of a violet petal). As a result there are many pictures of my hand in the world, but very few of my face. When my great grandchildren look at photos of me that is where they will have to look for a family resemblance. I imagine they’ll say things like, “Oh look, you have your great-grandmother’s thumb!”

SFG: Dragon

The original 18th century sword hand guard that I used for reference is in the collection of The Walters Art Museum. Last weeks prompt from Sugar Frosted Goodness was Dragon. I started this earlier in the week, then things heated up and got busy. This evening, even though it’s a bit late, I just couldn’t resist finishing it up and posting it.

Yesterday I found an owl pellet in the garden.

Inside were the remains of the Dread Pirate Vole. I am grateful to the owl for keeping the garden safe from these fearsome bulb swiping, seed munching rapscallions.

IF: Homage

Sweetie

This afternoon the weather was fine so I took a nice long walk. While I was admiring the daffodils I noticed this….

Of course I picked it up…perhaps it was a secret message for ME. Click on the image to see what I read.

Thoughts of Sweetie and “L” occupied the rest of my walk. Who are they? Do they live nearby? How old are they? Have they been married for 30 years or did they just find each other? And, really, why didn’t “L” want coffee? Was it because Sweetie’s coffee was lousy? Or did “L” have a doctor’s appointment that morning? Maybe there were tests that would entail giving up breakfast and even coffee. Did Sweetie know about the appointment? Or was “L” being vague so as not to cause worry?

I’ll never find out, but I hope everything is ok.
