SFG: Tiny

June 26, 2008

I love making line drawings. I was recently contacted to do an especially fun one. My assignment was to turn a ferocious university mascot, the panther, into an elegant, friendly and playful fellow for the university’s pediatric research program. I think this guy will make the tiny visitors feel welcome!

ten

June 20, 2008

It’s been a busy week! A couple of deadlines and a birthday party for my younger daughter. I’ll post what I’ve been working on when I get the “all’s clear” from my client. It was a lot of fun. Almost as much fun as turning ten….but not quite!

On her actual birthday she had Chicken Tikka Masala at her current favorite restaurant.

Here’s what you do when the ice cream parlor has candles, but no matches. Clever girl!

Then, the next day we threw a very colorful birthday party. But served a rather plain cake to our guests…or so they thought. Despite some obvious finger dips in the frosting, no one suspected the surprise inside!

TAG

June 14, 2008

No, that’s not a meme. it stands for Towson Artists Group, a wonderful art collective that I draw with once a week. They are having their Second Annual Group Show and I am so pleased to be part of it!

I had a lot of fun doing the illustration for the postcard in my usual style. However, I had a really hard time deciding what pieces to put into the show. No art director to please?!? Yikes! I wanted to include only pieces that I had done from drawings I did with the group (although that wasn’t a requirement). This is one that I finally chose….

And here is one that I didn’t choose but wish I had. I wasn’t sure if it was finished….I’m still not sure if it is finished…hmmm.

The show is at Adornment Gallery (previously Gallery M.I.M.) in the Meadow Mill. It runs through July 12th. There is so much to see from this diverse group. Stop by if you are in the Baltimore area!

IF: Forgotten, or not…

June 9, 2008

My sister-in-law laughed when I told her that, in an effort to improve my memory, I plan to memorize the poem Forgetfulness by Billy Collins. It is one of my all time favorites, and so beautifully animated by Julien Grey.

Berries for breakfast

Strawberries today

Gooseberries tomorrow.

Blueberries soon…

Raspberries later

IF: Baby

June 5, 2008

One of my favorite models for my life drawing group was a pregnant woman. She was a great model and could sit verrrrry still. The baby, on the other hand, could not stay still. Everytime she kicked or moved, her mother would smile a tiny smile and that smile would then spread to everyone in the room. The baby girl was born about a month ago. I hope to meet her this weekend!

Rainy day Saturday

June 1, 2008

It was a dark and rainy day yesterday. The car wouldn’t start so we had some homemade fun. Starting with a “spa day”

Then we made a berry pie and drank tea.

A la mode, of course.

Then the younger daughter and I sketched in our sketchbooks. We challenged ourselves to complete a 100 page sketchbook in the month of May. Here are some of our favorites….
